Eagles sign Avant

The Philadelphia Eagles have signed wide receiver Jason Avant to a five-year contract. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Avant has struggled to break into the starting lineup in Philadelphia, but he has shown a lot of promise.

As the team’s slot receiver, Avant set career highs with 41 receptions forĀ 587 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Head coach Andy Reid said that Avant has developed into one of the team’s top offensive players.

The Eagles love his physical approach to football and believe his best years are still ahead of him.

Eagles sign M. Jackson

The Philadelphia Eagles have signed free agent cornerback Marlin Jackson to a two-year contract.

Jackson is coming off of serious knee surgery and has had both knees repaired in the past few years.

Still, the Eagles weren’t scared away from signing him like the Indianapolis Colts, his former team.

Philadelphia has been been looking for a replacement for Brian Dawkins and may have finally found one.

The Eagles could elect to switch Jackson to safety, where he could still be effective even if he was slowed by the knee surgeries.

Eagles to give Vick roster bonus

The Philadelphia Eagles have decided to pay quarterback Michael Vick his $1.5 million roster bonus.

The decision to hold onto Vick keeps the quarterback position very crowded in Philadelphia.

It’s likely that the Eagles will trade one of their three quarterbacks before the NFL Draft, but it is unknown who will go.

It’s been rumored that front office personnel want to deal away Donovan McNabb, but head coach Andy Reid has put up strong resistance.

Vick has made it known that he would love to play for the Carolina Panthers, who recently released Jake Delhomme.

Eagles re-sign Weaver

The Philadelphia Eagles have re-signed fullback Leonard Weaver to a three-year contract worth $10 million.

The contract includes $5 guaranteed, which could be well-deserved in the coming season.

With Brian Westbrook not expected to return, Weaver will likely take on a bigger role in the offense.

He often worked as the goaline back last year and also spelled rookie running back LeSean McCoy when Westbrook was out with injuries.

He had 70 carries for 323 yards and two touchdowns last year, as well as 15 catches for 140 yards and two more scores.
